Lane Smith Cover Reveal: Recess!
You know, sometimes you just want to do a cover reveal for Lane Smith, amiright? Or is that just me? Whatever the case, we’ve a bit of a treat for you folks today. The one and only Lane Smith has a brand new picture book coming out July 22nd and you lucky ducks are going to get to see it for the first time today.
Called Recess, the book’s about… well here’s the publisher description:
Bestselling and award-winning creator Lane Smith presents an interactive read-aLOUD that invites readers to take a break, run wild with their imaginations, and join in on some good-natured, school-sanctioned shenanigans
School is where you go to learn. It is fun.
But sometimes you need a little break from all the fun.
That is why there is recess.
But what if it’s not recess time?
No problem!
You can have a Now Recess, a Really-Need-a-Break Recess, a Wherever-You-Are Recess.
It doesn’t matter what you call it. Just make sure you shout it:
RECESS!
Featuring the distinctive humor and beloved art of bestselling Caldecott honoree Lane Smith, this irresistibly fun, interactive read aLOUD is the perfect stress reliever to send kids into fits of giggles and shaking out their wiggles.
All well and good, but sometimes I like to hear what a book is about from the creators themselves.
Lane Smith says of the book:
“It’s a little stressful out there! Recess is a group participation read aloud that is silly and fun and gives kids and teachers a break. On a personal level, when I was in elementary school I was very shy and anxious about being singled out. That’s why I made Recess for everyone to participate in together. Group goofiness!”

I hear you, man. I was that kid too.
And so, without further ado… Recess!

Be sure to look for the book on July 22nd everywhere that good books are sold. And many thanks to Tayla Wagenseller and the team at Abrams for this reveal.
