Video Sunday: The Quibbling Gem

March 11, 2012 by Betsy Bird   4 comments

It is a well-established fact that a new Dan Santat book trailer is a cause for celebration.  I hadn’t heard of this one before, so this makes for a good introduction.  Could be a good pairing with John Rocco’s Wolf! Wolf! It also makes me wonder why there aren’t more fairytale ninja mash-ups out there.  Red Riding Hood where Granny wears a ninja mask (and then, eventually, so does the wolf).  Or Hansel and Gretel where they kick the witch into the fire.  Oh, the possibilities are endless . . .

So in other book trailer news, the grandson of Ernest Hemingway is friends with the lead singer of The Donnas.  Why am I telling you this?  Because in the great wide world of children’s literature it all comes together into a perfect whole.  Book trailer-wise anyway.  Observe and enjoy the latest trailer by Edward Hemingway for his upcoming picture book about an apple and his best friend.  And the music is by the aforementioned Donna, Brett.

I love the sheer weirdness of this.  Is it a symbiotic relationship?  Does one take advantage of the other?

In other news Tammi Sauer has posted a series of Prehistoric Art Lessons by Bob Shea in conjunction with the book Me Want Pet (a title which would pair beautifully with Jeremy Tankard’s Me Hungry, donchano).  I’ve chosen his video on the dodo bird to show here.  Aside from the toucan it is my favorite of all the birds.

I’m guilty of at least two phrases you’ll find in the next video.  More, I’m sure, but I hereby vow to excise the terms “quibble” and “gem” from my reviews (I think I used both in a recent one, which just goes to show).  This is hugely amusing to me just the same.  And, in spite of the title, workplace friendly.

Thanks to AL Direct for the link.

No off-topics today since I’m on a deadline (deadline = baby just woke up).  Happy Sundaying to you!

Indeed. Gem quibblecation kills millions every year. True story.

    Loved this post.

In my humble opinion, most great friendships are symbiotic…who hasn’t felt like an outcast in this life and found common ground with someone completely different from themselves? Like a worm inside an apple, such friendship couldn’t be more naturally occurring, yet when stumbled upon, always surprising.

Thanks, Elizabeth! I am not familiar with Wolf! Wolf! but I will check it out!
