Female Graphic Novelists and Moderation

July 10, 2008 by Betsy Bird   3 comments

Hey hey!  I’m moderating a thingy!  Come to Williamsburg to hang out with comic book artists, support a great cause, and hear women talk about working in the world of graphic novels.  Here are the details.

The Desk Set, Behind the Book & Desert Island Comics proudly present:

Woman Working in Panels

Have a Drink with a Panel of Female Graphic Novelists and Cartoonists as they Discuss Drawing, Writing and Publishing in this Macho World

Featuring Rebecca Donner, Fly, Miriam Katin, Leslie Stein, Sara Varon & Lauren Weinstein

& moderated by the lovely, Children’s Librarian and blogger, Betsy Bird (aka "Fuse #8")

The Desk Set has put together this special evening to benefit the literary arts nonprofit organization Behind the Book, a home-grown nonprofit that promotes literacy and strives to cultivate a love of reading for low-income students in New York City public schools. It does so by bringing authors & illustrators into the classroom to facilitate teachers and work with students on the entire process of book creation—from writing and illustrating to publication. These workshops are ongoing, providing a rich experience for students; authors, illustrators and publishing professionals come back again and again, forming unique collaborative relationships with students and teachers.

The Desk Set is an informal group of librarians, archivists, Library Science students and other individuals who love books. The Desk Set gatherings usually entail meeting up at bars in Greenpoint or Williamsburg and sometimes we go on field trips, have picnics or book swaps. This mailing list is used to let you know about these social gatherings, events and other items of interest. If you’d like to be removed from the list, you know what to do (and if you’d like to add someone, let us know that too). Check us out at www.myspace.com/thedeskset & www.thedeskset.org

    You’re moderating a panel panel? (Tell me that isn’t everyone’s first thought…)

Zut alors! It wasn’t even my fifth thought! I’m a failure as a blogger. That would have been an ideal title to this post. Bad, blogger! Bad!
