National Book Award Winner: Sherman Alexie
Yep. Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian hath won the honor.
Well, it’s YA, but it is also sitting on my shelf here, so I should probably go on and read it. The chair for the Young Person’s Literature committee, Elizabeth Partridge (I’ve always had an affection with bird-related last names and Elizabeth-related first names) stopped by my library with fellow author Susan Campbell Bartoletti at her side yesterday. They were charming, and I forced both of them to sign their books for our collection. As I did that, my co-worker did her darndest to talk up the books she wanted to win. That’s how we librarians work. We’re sneaky and sly.
Here’s an interview with Mr. Alexie here.
