ANNOUNCEMENT: The First Podcast Edition of A Fuse #8 Production
Blood has been sweat and tears have fallen but I am pleased to say that an experiment in audio has finished and there is now, for the very first time, a podcast edition of A Fuse #8 Production. Now you guys can actually hear me banging my head against a wall trying to figure out things like GarageBand, mikes, editing, music, etc.
Of course there are plenty of magnificent kidlit podcasting sites already out there. Roger Sutton recently announced the podcastification (podification? podificastration?) of Horn Book. Plus you’ve lovely sites like Just One More Book that have been doing this kind of thing for… years right? Yeah. They’ve got their stuff down pat.
But I always like to look at new ways of doing things, so I’ll do a couple of my own too. Once I get into the groove then I think it’ll come easier. We shall see. Feel free to tell me what I’m doing wrong too. The sooner we iron out the problems the sooner I’ll stop sounding like a sad, pale, inadequate copy of Ira Glass.
Actually I’m really happy about this. Yay! And just wait till you hear my intro music…

You seem to be using libsyn as your hosting place, so they should’ve given you an rss feed address — you should publish this address, so that people can subscribe to your podcast and get the new episodes automatically as they come. You’re not technically a podcast until you do so (you’re just web-hosted audio).
As for iTunes, once you’ve posted the rss address, people should just be able to subscribe to your show by pasting that url into the window that comes up under Advanced–>Subscribe to Podcast. When it comes to getting listed on iTunes, so that folks can rate and review your show, and such– I believe there’s a section in the iTunes store help that explains the submitting procedure (I actually need to remember to do this for my podcast soon). They say they review the podcasts individually, so it may take a week or two for it to show up there, but after that you’re sure to shoot to stardom.
Actually, I did some poking around, and it’s on an Apple help page, not the iTunes store help. Apparently I can’t post the URL here, but Google “getting your podcast listed on iTunes,” and it’s easy enough to find.
D’oh. I was on the right track the first time, but my eyeballs were blind when trying to confirm– just go to the iTunes store, click on podcast, then click on the “Submit a Podcast” link on the lower left corner of the podcast main page. Everything else holds true. And I apologize for the comment-flurry.

So many options…
You need to have a valid RSS feed before you can submit to iTunes. You’ll want that RSS feed to come from your blog site, otherwise you’ll have to do double-entry on both your blog and Libsyn account.
I use Libsyn for my media file hosting and call the file into our blog site in very much the same way you have. The missing link is the RSS component on your site.

I can do a good chipmunk… some characters from the Simpsons… Edith Bunker…Mary Poppins… lots of stupid ones. I’m good at imitating things. I kind of wish I persued that as a career. Too late now, eh?

Elizabeth, I agree, you are made for audiocasting! This is a great addition to SLJ’s online offerings, and gives me a chance to rest my screen-weary eyeballs.
