Windy City Tips Hat to Oversized Apple
Kidlit bloggers live on the wild side. Sometimes we have little to no regard for "the rules", man. Yeah. So if an article appears in The Chicago Tribune and it’s available online, should we link to it? Even if it were about to disappear at any moment. You bet your sweet bippy, baby!
The article in question would bug the heck out of me if I were a Chicago resident. When I lived in the Midwest the constant articles about New York and its self-designated status as Center of the Universe got my goat. Now I live here and it’s lovely. I have no pets, windows that face alley walls, and I’ve been breathing the stale air here for so long that when I went to "the country" the other day the fresh air felt like someone had taken 100 trees and shoved them up my nose. But you know what else I have? Articles about my town from all over the world. Nice.

This particular piece, New York Readies for Potter Book 7 Release Night Frenzy, is notable because the writer took the time to talk to the big bookstore chains, an independent bookstore, publishers, and even some floozy of a librarian. A fun piece.

Way to go floozy! I have to admitt, though, my favorite part of the whole article was at the end:
“Where there is publishing, there is schadenfreude.”
