Happy Happy Joy Joy

June 17, 2007 by Betsy Bird   7 comments

Hello, my pretty lovelies. My vocal little darlings. We have some very good news to report to you today. More specifically, Mr. Brian Kenney has some happy news to report to you today. The bouncy baby ad that everyone’s been just so very very pleased with is going to go away in one week’s time. And the ad will never come back either. It’s win-win. As for the RSS feed, that’s still in the works. I’ll keep you posted

I think the comments on Brian’s post, by the way, are just top notch as well.

Roger Sutton: Brian, I don’t begrudge you ads at all. We’re getting ’em,
eventually and in some form.I had just never seen one so annoying in its
persistence. David, not two days ago I blogged about boycotting this site. Give
him a break. Besides, remember when SLJ’s Lillian Gerhardt threatened to hit the
Horn Book’s Ethel Heins over the head with a CHAIR? Those were the
days.

Brian Kenney: That’s my favorite of Lillian’s many great editorials! But
you’re safe, Roger, I’m far too lazy to try and drag a chair onto the Acela and
head up to Boston. Thanks for giving me a break.

In other SLJ news, I don’t think I fully publicized that with my move to SLJ, two other new bloggers also joined their ranks. One is by teacher-librarian Joyce Valenza and the other is none other than top notch non-fiction extraordinaire Marc Aronson.  If you haven’t perused their sites as well, I urge you to do so pronto.

I love that in the midst of complaining about the ad, Roger gives a great plug for Sherman Alexie’s YA novel. Woohoo! Thanks Roger!

Is there any chance you could use larger typeface, too, Betsy? I notice Marc Aronson does. What about a font with serifs? Am I the only one who likes serifs?

Anyway, I’m still missing the coziness of your old format. It was so pretty and welcoming and simple to read. Anything else you can think of to make this SLJ site easy on the eyes?

You don’t like the font? I like the font. I find it peachy keen. Coziness is not here at first, but with time we’re going to crank up the coz factor. New features will keep making it here. The goal is to slowly improve it to the point where it becomes as personable as the old site. Unfortunately, that means bearing with me until then. I’ll look at other fonts though and see if there’s one that I prefer.

The font is OK, but I think it needs to be bigger. The size of the font in the comment boxes is nice. Can you do that?

I’ll dink about with it and see what I can do.

Okay, I’m tired of waiting for the RSS feed to appear. Please do me (and your other long-time readers) a favor and post on your old blog when the RSS feed appears here. Else, I doubt I’ll read again, because after all…I have 86 other blogs which are all aggregated at one place vying for my attention.

Well, I don’t have much time to go leaping back and forth between blogs. Tell ya what. Skip me for a week and then check back about that feed. I’m trying to get a timeline for it but no go. In a week I’ll be back from ALA and things should have progessed.
