Doing It Up Washington Style (And a Potential Kidlit Drink Night)
Mm. So I’ve been bad. I owe you guys at least another book review and a gigantic recap of last week‘s Harper Collins preview of upcoming titles. But I had this crazy move, couldn’t figure out how to post pictures (still tweaking that one, actually) and on top of all that I’m doing some freelance work that’s effectively gnawing away at any free time I might possibly devote to you, gentle readers. In short, I went out and saw a documentary on Chet Baker two nights ago at Film Forum, it was AWESOME, and I haven’t gotten around to doing the good blogger thing since.
Fortunately my woes will be appeased somewhat soonish when I high-tail it down to Washington D.C. ("it’s paradise to me") next week for the ALA Conference. Yep. It’s gonna be all about relaxing, eating food, and chilling out as I run hell-for-leather through streets I don’t know in an effort to find places with names like "Embassy of the Czech Republic" (this is true).

Want to hang out? I’m a bit booked for the most part but it’s hard to keep me away from a party. If you want to snag me on Friday or Monday, those days look pretty free and clear thus far. But probably the best way to get me would be at the Mitali Perkins book launch par-tay. She’s doing it up right for her title First Daughter: Extreme American Makeover and she was clever enough to plan the party (in the D.C. Public Library, no less) for that brief span of time I have between my lunches and my dinners. You want me? That’s where I’ll be.

Looking forward to reading Fuse #8 here at the SLJ. Is there anyway to remove the VERY ANNOYING scrolling bar ad for “Atherton”. Such an ANNOYING user experience to have this distraction over each post – even when one opens the online ad and presses the X Close button. Will there always be these annoying online moving ads over Fuse#8 posts?
I’m told that no, the ad banner will go away. Hasn’t done so yet, which is far more annoying to me than it is to any of you since you guys don’t have to stare at it for hours every day. And then there’s the theory that the RSS feed would take care of it, but so far that’s not present either. *sigh*
I like the idea of the new covers… but there’s nothing there as wonderful as the new paperback Wrinkle in Time (the Time Quintet, they say) covers. They’re amazing! And what’s with “Vintage Grimm,” “Vintage Dante,” etc.? Should I be reading Dante’s latest instead of this old stuff?

Thanks for the shout-out about my party — can’t promise as glam an event or author as the one you featured a few days ago, but it should be fun. And poor Fuse, you must be going rocking socking insane about this ad dilemma. Light a candle and mutter, “This too shall pass. This too shall pass.”
Did I miss the conclusion of the red dress conundrum? Will there be pictures of the events? (Yes, please!) …and do you know where we can read texts of the acceptance speeches online – I do recognize that Mr. Sutton will be printing them in the Horn Book.
The final chapter of the red dress saga will wrap up next week a mere day before I high-tail it to D.C. It will involve a mini quest, a facing of a great fear, and a trip into the heart of Bohemia (so to speak). Stay tuned.
I’ll be there at the book launch party, and the KidsLit drinks night – so cool to have one here in D.C.!
The place is picked! We’ll meet up at the Capitol City Brewing Company at the corner of 11th and H Streets, NW. Time will run from 5:30 to whenever.
Thanks for the mention, and I’ll see you at the book launch.
I’ll be there! Looking forward to it. 🙂
