Fusenews: All the news that’s fit to fuse

Boy, howdy. I haven't done a good old-fashioned Fusenews in a long time. How do these work again? I just sort of throw up the recent children's literature news from a variety of sources with comments of some sort? Honestly, I used to do these pieces fairly regularly. Interview in Cardboard: A Talk with Dana Sheridan

Good morning, everyone, and thank you for attending yet another edition of the A Fuse #8 Production interview series.  I am, as ever, your host Betsy Bird and before we go much further you might have noticed something a little different about me.  Is it my hair?  The fact I have my contacts in?  Or […]

Fusenews: “If ‘1984’ or ‘The Trial’ had been a children’s book, Mr Messy would be it”

Recently I’ve grown rather fascinated with the academic children’s collections of the world.  The rare book collections in particular.  With that in mind, what do you do if you’re an institution that specializes in archived materials, and yet you still want to engage young readers in some capacity?  Enter Teaching the untouchable, a great article […]

Fusenews: Not seething with envy. It’s more of a percolation process.

April 17, 2014 by Betsy Bird

So what’s the talk of the town these days?  Well the relative brouhaha came about at the end of last week when ReedPOP announced a panel of “the world’s biggest children’s authors” in the field.  That the luminaries in question were all white and male struck a raw nerve with a whole slew of folks. […]
