Cover Reveal: The Sherlock Society by James Ponti

February 8, 2024 by Betsy Bird   Leave a Comment

Woot woot! Cover reveal day! It only comes but once a . . . (checks blog) . . . week!

And today we’re featuring a new cover from none other than Mr. James Ponti. You may remember Mr. Ponti from such series as City Spies. Now he’s coming out with a new title and we have the cover.

But first! A little info about the book:

First there were the City Spies, now there’s the Sherlock Society! Nancy Drew meets Miami Vice in this action-packed, exciting, and funny new middle-grade series from New York Times bestselling, Edgar award-winning author James Ponti!

“Maybe if our last name was Baker, we would’ve sold cupcakes. Or if it was Walker, we might’ve taken care of people’s dogs while they were on vacation. But it’s Sherlock, so detective agency just seemed like the thing to do. Especially compared to more traditional middle school money making schemes like babysitting (boring), lawn mowing (sweaty), or cleaning out the attic (boring and sweaty).”

And so it begins. Together with their friends Lina, an avid bookworm, and Yadi, an aspiring cinematographer, siblings Alex and Zoe Sherlock decide to take some inspiration from Encyclopedia Brown and spend their summer solving mysteries. And it doesn’t hurt that their grandfather is a retired reporter with a storage unit full of cold cases and a sweet lime green Cadillac convertible that he’s willing to drive them around in.

With the hopes of finding a long-lost treasure that was supposedly hidden somewhere in the area, the group starts out investigating the local doings of famed gangster Al Capone. But when they start searching a hard-to-find island in the middle of the Everglades, they find some alarming evidence that hints at corporate corruption. Together with Gramps’ know-how and the kids’ intelligence–plus some really slick gadgets–the group sets about who is at the root of the conspiracy, and why.

Ten’ll get you one that you didn’t expect to encounter the phrase, “Nancy Drew meets Miami Vice” today in your travels, but here we are.

And now . . . the cover!

If you just so happen to be in the area, a launch event for this book has been confirmed for the book’s publication day (September 3rd at 3 p.m.) at Books & Books in Coral Gables, FL (since the book is set around there). For this event, James will be appearing in conversation with fellow middle-grade author Christina Diaz Gonzalez. You can RSVP for it here, if you like.
