Christmas in June? Book Trailer Premiere: The Great Santa Stakeout by Betsy Bird and Dan Santat!
Ho ho ho! They complain that Christmas arrives in stores earlier and earlier every year. Well I’m about to make such stores look like late lucys because today we’re celebrating my holiday-themed picture book collaboration with Dan Santat, coming out (interestingly enough) in September!
So a little background on today’s video. Many months ago Scholastic asked Dan and I to film ourselves doing a little back and forth action regarding our book. Dan filmed his side first and I added my own touches. But after sending the footage in it was out of sight, out of mind, and I completely forgot about it all.

Fast forward to the ALA Convention in Washington D.C. which I attended this past weekend. I’m going about my business, talking to fellow librarians, when a friend comes up and happens to mention, “Hey! Saw your video with Dan Santat. Your children are so cute in it!”
Blank stare.
Oh. Ohhhhhhhhh. That video. I had completely put it out of my mind. Turns out, Scholastic posted it online about a month ago AND showed it at a Scholastic lunch during the conference. Who knew? So when I call today its “premiere” I may actually mean its premiere on a blog platform.
Enjoy!
And just for fun, if you’d like to see a very different interview with Dan that is, I do believe, almost a decade older, enjoy this little extra:
