Video Sunday: Wenzelian

A Video Sunday!! How long has it been? Too darn long, that’s what I say. And as it just so happens, we’ve a veritable plethora of goodies for you!  So I think I’ll start with the official announcement of the very first Excellence in Graphic Literature Awards. I chaired the Children’s category this year, so you’ll find me around the 4:18 mark (my copious looking down bugs me, but whatchagonnado?), but more than that you should just check out the nominees. I gotta say, this is one of the finest lists of comics I have ever had the pleasure to witness:

This next one that is a CLEAR attempt to make some of that mad bank that Paddington has been pulling in. If you ever watched the movie Hook and thought to yourself, “Boy, I wish they’d do the same thing, but with Winnie-the-Pooh,” consider your deluded little prayers answered. I mean, don’t get me wrong. It’s nice to hear Jim Cummings getting work again (no one Sterling Holloways like that man Sterling Holloways) but . . . yeah, you’re going to have to see this for yourself:

I’m sure you’ve seen your fair share of artists saying how they got “the call” from the Caldecott committee. Here’s one I’d wager you haven’t seen yet. Elisha Cooper tells the tale of his new Honor. Bonus: Contains cats.

And then there’s the fact that I’ve been doing some lovely interviews with local authors. Really choice stuff, to be blunt. For example, there’s this killer nonfiction picture book biography that just came out about the first woman who made a serious run for the presidency.

To say nothing of this one with Sherri Duskey Rinker. I didn’t know they’d go with the goofy opening. Notice how we didn’t consult one another when we decided to wear the same shirt:

I more than understand when folks aren’t all that into Amanda Palmer. Sure. That’s fine. But I’m awful keen on her music, and quite frankly this little ode of hers is just lovely.

There’s even an interview with her over at Slate to explain where it come from and why Judy Blume means as much to her as she does.

And now, the obligatory has-to-have-something-to-do-with-Harry-Potter video of the day. Is there a word for this method of speaking in Vlogs, by the way? Seems like there must be. I feel so out of the loop.

Every decade gets the Little Women adaptation it deserves. Masterpiece Theater is the latest to throw its hat into the ring. That cast, though! Woof! At least on the old people. Impressive.

This is a book trailer for his latest title, and my co-worker Brian came up with the perfect term for the way Brendan does eyes: They’re Wenzelian. Copyright Brian, folks.
