Fuse 8 n’ Kate: The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg

December 27, 2017 by Betsy Bird   Leave a Comment

PolarExpressShhh! Don’t tell Kate! I was supposed to drop this podcast on Monday as per usual but I got my dates mixed up and thought that Monday was Sunday. That’s the holidays for you. A bummer but since Kate has only a minimal online presence I’m going to try and sneak it through on a Wednesday like nothing ever happened. Like it isn’t out two days after Christmas and YET is a Christmas podcast. Hee hee  . . . heh . . . he  . . . *sigh*

A pity since it’s a good one too. After hearing so much about the Polar Express film (which I steadfastly refuse to watch) we thought we might tackle the book good and proper. How well do YOU remember it? Well . . . let’s find out.

Source Notes:

– Yeah. I said Fuse Kate n’ 8. She didn’t stop me. I figure that’s on her.

– In case you’d like to hear Liam Neeson read this book you can do so here:

– Actually, there’s a very good reason to make that Polar Express/Hunger Games connection. Kate would like you to know the following:

Josh Hutcherson’s first major role was “The Polar Express” and he went on to star in “The Hunger Games.” Apparently he’s drawn to trains. And I just saw this interview he did about working with Tom Hanks that I thought I’d pass along.

– Meet Selfie Elf

PolarExpress2

– And, his companion, Super Annoyed Elf

PolarExpress3

– How Kate continues to find creepy clowns in every single book I’ll never know.

PolarExpress5

– Kid that’s staring at Hercule Poirot, who just got on the train.

PolarExpress1

– YOU HAVE A HOLE?!?

PolarExpress4

– You can find the whole write-up at #56 on the Top 100 Picture Books poll.

– The Polar Express Train Ride from St. Louis Union Station can be seen here.

– Journey to the North Pole from North Conway Village.

– My interview with Chris Van Allsburg can be read here.

– Yep. There’s a hobo on that roof all right.

– My favorite cookbook of all time. I love it, so very much.
