It’s happening again! If you live in New York our Children’s and YA Lit Cafe (for adults, no less) has the usual smattering of free food, books, and a special guest. This month, a speaker, teacher, and blogger responsible for the great Educating Alice.

Monica Edinger, children's literature expert and 4th grade teacher at the Dalton School, will be presenting her ideas and experiences in sharing fantasy literature with children. In recent years, classics such as The Wizard of Oz , The Golden Compass and Alice In Wonderland have been given new life in other media. Monica will show how to introduce these titles to children by sharing different text formants and incorporating online and cinematic elements...
Monica has taught for over 30 years, first as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Sierra Leone and then in New York City. She has published numerous titles, including Seeking History: Teaching with Primary Sources in Grades 4-6 ; Far Away and Long Ago: Young Historians in the Classroom; Using Beloved Classics to Deepen Reading Comprehension ; Fantasy Literature in the Elementary Classroom: Strategies for Reading, Writing and Responding . Monica also has a blog, "Educating Alice," ( www.medinger.wordpress.com ), and she just finished serving on the 2008 Newbery Committee.
