A Meeting of the Literary Cafe: Street Lit

It’s here again!  The Children’s and Young Adult Literary Cafe is meeting this Saturday with a topic that I would dare say has almost never been discussed in a YA format before.  Street Lit.  Check out the details:

We have finalized our plans for the upcoming meeting of the Literature Cafe!  Please join us for this discussion of one of the hottest new trends in Young Adult Literature!!!

 
Street Lit. for Teens:  The Controversy, the Reality, and the Future 
Saturday, December 15th, 2 PM
 
PANEL DISCUSSION:  Megan Honig (public librarian) and Kelly Overton (school librarian), local librarians and experts in the field, will be sharing their expertise on this topic, and opening the floor to discussion.  They will be joined by Selina James of Dafina Books and Tony Collins, author of Games Women Play , published by Ghetto Heat. 
 
The term "street lit" is used to describe fast-pace, gritty novels about street life.
 
This rather new and controversial genre is wildly popular among teen readers.  This event is an opportunity to explore the different types of street lit, and to discuss the ways this genre speaks to teens, and the ways in which it can be incorporated into collections and used to appeal to reluctant readers.  
 
This is sure to be an exciting and heated discussion!
 
As usual, refreshments and goodies will be provided!!!  Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have.
