I’m excited about my ongoing project on Astrid Lindgren: the centennial of her birth is 14 November, and I’ve been celebrating all year with reading, writing, teaching, and travel related to her life and work. I first read _Pippi Longstocking_ when I was nine years old, never dreaming that I would someday get to stand in the little house in Sweden where the author was born.

There is an Astrid Lindgren conference coming up at the University of Minnesota–one of the speakers will be Tiina Nunnally, the translator of the new edition of _Pippi Longstocking_, and I’m especially looking forward to what she has to say about translation and Astrid Lindgren. Below is the electronic flyer the university libraries sent out, and here is the link to the Children’s Literature Research Collections page with information about the event:
An exhibit celebrating Astrid Lindgren’s life and work will be up at the American Swedish Institute  in Minneapolis 31 October-2 December.  Getting to work on this was one of the lucky things about my year. Here is the link to their exhibits page:
Another part of my project is an article in the current _Horn Book_ that came out of my adventure in Sweden last spring.
I don’t have any connection to the events at the House of Sweden events in Washington, but this exhibit and seminar event sound pretty wonderful, too:
I don’t want my email to get too long, but the other thought I want to send along is about how a lot of people have other Astrid Lindgren titles to discover: _The Children of Noisy Village_, for example, and the wonderful _Ronia, the Robber’s Daughter_. For starters.
