Today we take a trip over to the Netherlands. Specifically, to the expressive features and brightly colored paints of Mies Van Hout. To say that some of these images glow from their pages would not be an overstatement.
If a pile of money was suddenly plopped into your lap, what would you buy? Let's say you had to spend the money on something superfluous. Something that wasn't a necessity. What would you buy? I'd buy a Little Free Library. In lieu of that, I'll do the next best thing and premiere the trailer for the upcoming book LITTLE LIBRARIES, BIG HEROES.
In author Kate Hannigan's latest novel, the author switches gears a bit with Cape. It's launching a series called "The League of Secret Heroes" and publishing with Simon & Schuster/Aladdin on August 6th. Kate was kind enough to share with me some background to the book. Get ready for Wonder Woman meets The Imitation Game.
Ho ho ho! They complain that Christmas arrives in stores earlier and earlier every year. Well I'm about to make such stores look like late lucys because today we're celebrating my holiday-themed picture book collaboration with Dan Santat, coming out (interestingly enough) in September! Wrack my brain though I have, I can't think of a picture book that specifically discusses the mispronunciation of the protagonist's name. I mean, we've had lots of name-related picture books. My Name Is Yoon. Chrysanthemum. The Name Jar. Alma. But about the way you say it specifically? Hmmm.
Victoria Stapleton (of Little, Brown & Co.) interviews the illustrious artist Eliza Wheeler in a casual "Book Chat" about her upcoming book, WHEN YOU ARE BRAVE.
If you know Aaron Becker's name it's probably from that magnificent quest trio of picture books, Journey, Quest, and Return. Becker took a seemingly simple form, the picture book, and gave it breadth and depth without sacrificing child-interest and focus. But apparently that wasn't enough of a challenge because now he's created a board book and it's a doozy of a marvel.
What the heck is 'Creators IRL'?". It's a series Penguin created to "offer a safe space for conversations, questions, revelations, and reflections between readers and some of their favorite creators. Featuring candid discussion from some of the book community’s most beloved creators, each video will center on a particular topic and explore how that topic has influenced the creator’s life and career." Today, I'm premiering the third video in the series. Its focus? “Identity”.
