Today, I'm giving all my love to those quirky sci-fi (yes, I know science fiction fans hate that term) titles of 2021, both in picture book and older reader form. There weren't a ton, but what there was was magic.
For the kid that likes their science fiction dark with marvelous villains and a strong core message about individuality, storytelling, and hope, I can’t think of a better book to hand over. A dystopia you’ll be happy to dive into deeply.
Today I'm breaking down the Science Fiction titles of 2020 into Picture Books, Early Chapter Books, Middle Grade Fiction, and Comics. I wouldn't call this a definitive list of any kind, but I truly enjoyed each and every last one of these titles.

Science Fiction, man. It's one of my favorite genres for kids, but like Mysteries it can be hard to find a whole slew of them in a given year. To combat that problem, for today's list I'm pulling equally from the comics as I am the middle grade fiction.
