Book Trailer Premiere: It’s Not Hansel and Gretel by Josh Funk
It’s a little crazy but do you know how hard it is to find a decent edition of Jack and the Beanstalk these days? The Galdone version is, I’m sorry, really weird and the E. Nesbit too long. Honestly, one of the best versions I’ve run across is Josh Funk’s It’s Not Jack and the Beanstalk which my son really adores. It’s not just the fact that the book breaks down the fourth wall (though that doesn’t hurt). It’s the beauty that comes when any fairytale character points out the innately ridiculous aspects of their own story.
My son is such a fan, in fact, that when Josh Funk wondered if I wanted to premiere the book trailer for the sequel, It’s Not Hansel and Gretel, I was all over that. Kirkus has already said of it that it’s, “A twisted take on an old standard that just may have readers rewriting their own favorites.” And you know me and my twisted takes. What’s not to love?
So here now is the trailer extraordinaire. Watch out Rocky & Bullwinkle. There’s a new Fractured Fairytale in town*.
Josh actually provided me with his bio as well. I swear on a stack of Bibles that I did not make him write this.
Episode 10 really is good, though.
Josh Funk writes silly stories and somehow tricks people into publishing them as books – such as the Lady Pancake & Sir French Toast series, How to Code a Sandcastle, Lost in the Library: A Story of Patience and Fortitude, and more. He has listened to every episode of the Fuse 8 n’ Kate Podcast at least once (episode 10 is his favorite) a dreams that one day a book he writes a book worthy of their consideration (maybe in season 30 or so).
