Happy Book Birthday, FUNNY GIRL! Celebrating My Contributors Properly
It’s here it’s here! Break out the marching band! Hand out the noise-makers! Give old Grandma Sally a kazoo to toot because my anthology Funny Girl‘s book birthday is here at last!
To properly celebrate today I’ve a couple special treats in store. First off, I want to honor the brave women who agreed to be a part of this anthology. If the book has any merit it is because of their blood, sweat, and talent. And, thanks in entirely to Amy Ignatow, now you can see them all in one place at once.

Ladies and gentlemen, the fever dream that is . . . . THE WOMEN OF FUNNY GIRL!!!
Come closer . . .
.
You might be saying to me now, “Betsy, isn’t two narwhals an awful lot for one picture?” and to that I would reply, “YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH NARWHALS!!!!” Because basically Amy Ignatow (a contributor herself who did this out of the goodness of her golden glorious heart) is a mad genius who understands that putting a horn on an animal automatically makes it better. “Betsy,” you now say, “is that symbolic in a book full of women?” Shush shush, my love. No words. Shhhhhhhh.
These women are the world to me and I was trying to figure out how best to give them their due. Then it occurred to me that this book is NOT everything they’ve last done or have going on in 2017. So for your viewing pleasure, here are the projects of the women of FUNNY GIRL that you should definitely know about:
First off, everyone is in this book:
But in alphabetical order, here’s their latest stuff:
Cece Bell
Sophie Blackall
Libba Bray
Lisa Brown
Adrianne Chalepah
Adrianne doesn’t have any books out in 2017 aside from this one but you should check out her 2017 Press Kit if you want to see her perform stand-up in person.
Alison DeCamp
It’s 2016 and still as ripe and fresh as the day it was published:
Carmen Agra Deedy
Reviewed here by yours truly.
Kelly DiPucchio
Lisa Graff
Shannon Hale
Also out in October is The Legend of Shadow High but no cover is currently available. Oh! And they’re repackaging all the books in her Goose Girl series.
Charise Mericle Harper
Jenni & Matthew Holm
Sorry you didn’t make our picture, Matt, but as our honorary little brother it’s good to honor your 2017 work alongside Jenni.
Akilah Hughes
Akilah doesn’t have any books out in 2017, but you can follow her on her YouTube channel at Akilah Obviously if you like. Here she is doing Cups. Not Safe for Work language-wise, I suppose, but boy oh boy oh boy.
Amy Ignatow
Christine Mari Inzer
Christine only has one book out so far, but since she’s still in college (a Sophomore, I believe) I suspect we’ll be seeing a lot more of her in our future. Keep an eye on this one.
Lenore Look
Meghan McCarthy
Mitali Perkins
Leila Sales
Raina Telgemeier
Deborah Underwood
Ursula Vernon
This is what she gets up to when she not being nominated for 2017 Hugo Awards.
Rita Williams-Garcia
(Michelle doesn’t write as much, so I don’t think she’ll mind if her mom stands in for the both of them this one time)
Mackenzie and Delaney Yeager
No books in the pipeline from these two that I know of, but if you’re curious about what they’re up to you can check out Delaney on her website and Mackenzie on her Twitter feed.
