Animated and Opinionated: The SLJ Pre-Game / Post-Game Show Returns!

January 29, 2015 by Betsy Bird   3 comments

Observe the following:

SLJ-Pre-game Show dance number: ALA Youth Media Awards 2014 from School Library Journal on Vimeo.

If it is not immediately clear, this is a video of me dancing with partner-in-crime Lori Prince to the ALA hold music. More specifically, it’s the music that they play as you wait for the live webcast of the ALA Youth Media Awards to begin. In the past it was dour stuff, like Bon Iver on Valium.  They must have gotten complaints because there was a distinct tonal shift last year.  Hence Lori and I doing a boogie number in the SLJ offices.

Why do I bring this up?  Because, oh best beloveds, this coming Monday the ALA Youth Media Award announcements will be upon us again.  And once again Lori and I will be hosting the Second SLJ PreGame / PostGame Show!!!

What is the pregame/postgame show?  Well, it’s commentary.  Half an hour before the awards (8:30 EST) Lori and I will do a live feed of thoughts, predictions, likes, and dislikes for the day.  At 9:00 we’ll break and everybody will watch the live feed.  Then afterwards (sometime between 10-10:30) the awards will end and everybody will head back to our feed to hear our post game wrap-up.  We’ll talk about the surprises and how it all played out.

Interested in watching us?  We’re mighty friendly and as an extra added bonus I’ll give shout outs to all the Mock Newberys and Mock Caldecotts that got the final winners right!  I’ve been keeping track of them this year.  I’ll even do a post about them tomorrow.

If you’d like to see the show, here’s where to go:

On Monday, February 2nd:

– At 8:30 a.m. go here: https://plus.google.com/events/col68hatlfv13jlsdaadsmclmd4

– At 9:00 a.m. you’ll watch the live webcast of the awards here: http://live.webcastinc.com/ala/2015/live/

– When the announcements end you’ll come back to us here: https://plus.google.com/events/crbo64c4rr1b6ohtlhln832p5cc

Couldn’t be simpler!

The official press release of our show is here, in case you’ve any additional questions.  And I do sincerely hope you join us.  We’re going to have a LOT of fun.

Sounds good! Will this be archived? I’ll miss the wrap up because of story time.

Yep! Since it’s a Google Hangout it will automatically record. The links should take you to the final video after we’re done. Yay, modern technology!
