Press Release Fun: Launch Party and Tiger Beat in Concert

January 10, 2012 by Betsy Bird   4 comments

Yeah, I’m doing a lot of these lately, I know.  It’s been a crazy coupla last days.  In any case, I don’t usually push stuff going on in town that’s for a single publisher, but this just looked so cute I couldn’t resist . . .

Rock God Launch Party &

Jam Session with Young Adult Writers band, Tiger Beat,

at Barnes & Noble on Thursday, January 19

Who: Barnabas Miller, YA author and drummer for Tiger Beat, drew on his own musical background and history to write his latest novel, ROCK GOD: THE LEGEND OF BJ LEVINE.  He started his professional life as “kid jingle singer” for brands like Toys R US and Matchbox (just ask him to perform the Matchbox Rap or I’m a Toys R Us Kid.) His love of music led him to his current work producing music for film and television.

What: An entertaining, rock-charged wild ride featuring more outlandish characters than This is Spinal Tap, ROCK GOD is the hilarious story of B.J. Levine, a mild-mannered nebbish who wants to escape his humdrum existence, bond with his rocker father and find his true purpose in life – not necessarily in that order. BJ knows that he is destined to be a Mega Lord of Rock — if only he had a modicum of musical talent. The perfect combination of Rock N’ Roll comedy and a coming-of-age novel, ROCK GOD has Kirkus Reviews chuckling, “The story makes as much sense as your average Queen song, and it’s just as much fun.”

Event Information: Tiger Beat is celebrating the launch of ROCK GOD with a blow-out jam session at B&N’s Upper East Side store on Thursday, January 19th at 7pm.  Barney will be reading from his new book and performing songs “created” by the main character, B.J. Levine. B.J’s first “single” can be found at http://www.facebook.com/rockgodbjlevine

Tiger Beat ‘s author-members (with self-described talents) are:

Ø  Libba Bray: Vocals & Toddler Serenading (Beauty Queens)

Ø  Natalie Standiford: Bass & Coolness (How to Say Goodbye in Robot)

Ø  Daniel Ehrenhaft: Guitar & Bafflement (Americapedia)

Ø  Barnabas Miller: Drums & Problem Solving

As an extra-special bonus, ALL the band members will be reading from their masterworks and signing too!

ME TOO!! Have you heard the great song “Three Notes” that Barnabas Miller (or, in the story, B. J. Levine) wrote for this book? It’s going over and over in my head, it’s so funny, sweet, and great.

Was lucky enough to see this. It was GREAT. Barney Miller’s reading from the book was wonderfully funny (he should do some acting), and the Tiger Beat band’s songs were equally fun. Talented group for sure. you can google them on line. Seems they do a lot of covers but this night they did a cute and strong song supposedly written by the story’s lead character B. J. Levine but actually written by Miller himself, who, on top of everything
else, plays drums and sings fantastically. Check out the song “Three Notes” on Facebook.
