Press Release Fun: Everything’s Coming Up Angus

October 28, 2011 by Betsy Bird   4 comments

Because if ever a guy deserved his own press release, this guy does.

Angus Killick will be joining Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group as Vice President and Associate Publisher. He will report directly to Jon Yaged, President of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group (MCPG).

In this newly-created position, Angus will coordinate publishing programs across MCPG’s portfolio of imprints, lead the children’s marketing team, and oversee key marketing campaigns. In addition, Angus will also have responsibility for pursuing business development opportunities on behalf of the division.

Angus joins MCPG from Kingfisher, a division of Pan Macmillan, where he was the Associate Publisher and Director of Marketing. Previously, he has held senior marketing positions at Disney Publishing Worldwide, Penguin Young Readers Group, DK, and Cassell in New York and London.

“I could not be more excited to have Angus join our team. His vast experience across all areas of publishing will have an immediate impact on our fantastic 2012 list and enable us to accelerate our growth into the future. Angus is a true ambassador of children’s books and we are fortunate to have him,” said Jon Yaged.

Angus Killick said “I am excited to be joining the enormously talented team at MCPG, and look forward to working with the tremendous roster of authors and illustrators who publish with its family of imprints. This feels a completely natural move, especially given my strong affinity for Macmillan, which is such a unique and supportive environment. I see great things in our future.”

Anthony Forbes Watson, MD of Pan Macmillan commented, “While we will be very sad to see him go, I know we’ll all wish Angus the very best in his new and exciting role, which is richly deserved. The process to appoint Angus’ successor is already underway.”

Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group is comprised of Farrar Straus Giroux Books for Young Readers, Feiwel and Friends, First Second, Henry Holt Books for Young Readers, Priddy Books, Roaring Brook Press, and Square Fish.

So I’ve been reading about this everywhere on the Internet, and the comments on the posts are all like “Way to go Macmillan” and “Lucky Macmillan,” and to someone who doesn’t know him it just makes me CRAZY to understand how he got this following (and why, without knowing him, I get goosebumps to think that MY book is one of the 2012 list that he is going to “have an immediate impact on”). Honestly, what manner of charisma is this?!

Well Elizabeth once you have had the good fortune to meet him you will understand why folks feel the way they do about him. I have known him for years and was lucky enough to have had have him for my boss when I worked at Hyperion.

Smart, funny, professional and a master of marketing and “author care”.

Agreed. There’s just something about Angus. I do believe he may well be the most beloved man in the industry.

Angus makes you believe that YOU matter. While I have met many fabulous folks in the publishing world, Angus is in that top tier. Elizabeth Bird, he would get my vote! Elizabeth Fama, listen to Sharon!
