Whoa–I haven’t seen all of those yet and they are amazing. How fun that you were able to be a part of that!
What a fabulous mix of styles, too! Clearly, you and the other judges had your work cut out for you, assessing the comparative strengths of strong season of entrants to winnow it down to this stellar group of winners. 😀
This is always a fun list to see. Love the slide show.
Who is replacing Julie Just at the NYT? Do you know?
Yay! Amos and Bink. Those judges make me proud. Thanks. Now I believe we have been promised a certain Donkey review.
Hey, Betsy, congrats! Love these choices, and I’m dying to know the criteria for choosing them. Does the text matter at all or is it ONLY about the quality of illustration?
Cheers!
Now Susan, I don’t yet know who is replacing Julie but you can bet I’ll let y’all know the minute I hear anything. Personally, I’m going to miss her. She was a good editor to me.
DaNae, the coming of the Donkey is nigh. Repent!
And Marjorie, it’s funny but the criteria appears to be contingent upon the judges in a given year. I’ve hear rumor (just a rumor mind) that some 20-odd years ago an illustrator said that each of the three judges picked their top three and then a single book they could all agree on. Yikes! This year our choices were all mutual and I think we each critiqued the books from different points of view. I looked at them with my librarian glasses on. Robert is an artist himself and took that into account. And David’s background is in design so that expertise was worked in as well. Combine our three points of view and voila! Instant list.
love the mix of talent here ~ so proud of Bink & Gollie, yay!
