Things Are Heating Up . . .

August 12, 2010 by Betsy Bird   7 comments

While my friend Davin has applied at The Museum of Science and Industry for their Month at the Museum assignment, I must admit that he’s not my only friend vying for the position.  Over in Maine you’ve got your Leila Roy applying (though sadly she hasn’t let us see her entry).

Another applicant is YA author of The Order of Odd-Fish and friend of the blog James Kennedy.  James has the hometown advantage in this case, and his video has one distinct edge for me: There’s an E.L. Konigsburg reference in it right from the start.  Which, of course, makes it instantly blog worthy:

Another point in his favor?  A cute baby.  Good luck, James!

Sweetheart, my video is easily the weakest part of my application package — so I’ll load it up if I make the second round. My essay references BOTH Konigsburg AND Harriet the Spy, so take that, world! TAKE THAT!

Adorable, adorable baby in a cute, cute dress.

There’s a second round? I had no idea. When do y’all know?

Semi-finalists will find out by the 25th, I think, and then there are phone interviews.

And then, September 1st, three people will get invited to Chicago for the final in-person interviews.

Well good luck! It’s tough having three folks I all want to get it. I suppose that there’s only one winner but I wish they could extend that.

No matter what happens, perhaps Davin, Leila and I should try to break in anyway. It shows initiative?

Thanks for linking me up, Betsy! I’m facing some stiff competition.

Excellent, James. For me, the rainbow pillowcase symbolizes Americans’ quest for rest in a society that applauds running ourselves into the ground in the name of progress.

    Nah. This s**t was fun!
“You’ll miss me.” Period. Silence. Awesome.

James, that would be *excellent* — I’d love to bust out my ninja gear and grappling hook!
