Video Sunday: Let’s eat peanut butter. Stop throwing those pigeons

Knowing my deep in the bones dislike of The Giving Tree (let it comfort those amongst you who like it that my husband does as well) roundabout five people sent me this Sassy Gay Friend version of the well-known story.  Can we get a Sassy Gay Friend version of Rainbow Fish next, please?  This gets points for an unexpected solution, and reminds me a bit of the College Humor version that came out a couple years ago.  Fans of the book itself may enjoy this version where Shel himself reads the story.  See?  Something for everyone.  Thanks to everyone for the link!

Another video that was making the rounds this week was the Old Spice Guy PSA.  He did it in response to a tweet from someone called @wawoodworth.  That may explain the first thing he says here.

The downside to this is that I have now spent the better part of my day watching all the other Old Spice Guy videos out there.  Declarative statements never looked so good.  Thanks to Inkygirl for the link.

Book trailers are one thing.  How about clever video advertisements for gallery shows?  Residents of Culver City, CA you are in luck.  The Ed Emberley and Friends show is currently going on.  According to them, “Curated by Caleb Neelon, the exhibition features Ed Emberley as well as five artists who were inspired by him. The artists include Raul Gonzalez, Seonna Hong, Matt Leines, Christopher Kline and Saelee.”

It’s no secret that I consider maybe the most important children’s book of the year to read one One Crazy Summer by Rita Williams-Garcia.  There haven’t been all that many videos of Ms. Rita talking about the book, but fellow author (and potential Newbery winner this year as well, thanks to her Keeper) made this great video of Rita talking about writing the book and the parts in it that came from her own life.  I particularly like the part where she talks about how she is not a poet and when she had to write Cecile’s poems, “I began to find other things for Cecile to do.”

Off-Topic time.  On a good week I’ll suddenly discover a video that screams to be my off-topic video, regardless of whatever else I’ve managed to set aside.  Recently this video appeared on the Ken Levine blog.  It’s an old Candid Camera where Woody Allen acted like a man hiring a secretary.  For all that she’s covered in the fashions of the times, what I really love about this is how natural the secretary is with Woody.  You just end up loving her by the end of the video.
