Oh, Dream Butler. I Believe You Can Get Me Through the Night

January 23, 2010 by Betsy Bird   5 comments

My husband didn’t believe me when I told him about it. Even when I showed him the menu he was aghast. While at the Midwinter ALA Conference I had the great good fortune to share a room with three other fine and fabulous ladies. The first night I found my pillow to be flat and uncomfortable. The second night, we noticed this little slip of paper sitting on our sidetable.

Needless to say, I took advantage of the offer and was mighty glad I did.  When I grow up, I want to become a Seaport Pillow Librarian.  Either that or a Dream Butler.  I haven’t made up my mind yet.

Matt, for the record, is convinced that this entire menu is code of some sort.

So, which pillow did you choose?

Please tell me if the Dream Butler brought up all the pillows on a little cart, as if they were desserts. That is one heckuva great job title.

    Also: buckwheat?!?

Buckwheat was why my husband is inclined to think it’s all code. All I will say is this: it’s a darn loud pillow.

Hey, don’t knock the buckwheat. I have a Bucky pillow that is u-shaped that is a neck brace for long flights. It also doubles as a coccyx cushion, apparently, although sitting on buckwheat is not soft and comfy.

Okay, yeah, it is loud. But, you’re asleep. You’re not supposed to be listening.

Totally code. “Buckwheat” stands for “17-year-old Jason Stackhouse lookalike.” Mmm!
