DESPITE THE WAVERING ECONOMY THE EZRA JACK KEATS FOUNDATION FORGES AHEAD INVITING
PUBLIC LIBRARIES AND PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO SUBMIT
MINIGRANT PROPOSALS FOR 2010
“Funding for special programs in public schools and libraries is always difficult to come-by, but in a perilous economy the challenge, and the need, for this support is even greater. We are pleased and grateful to be able to hue to our mission, and continue with the EJK Minigrant program unabated despite economic downturns,” stated Dr. Deborah Pope, Executive Director of the EJK Foundation. “Just two years ago we increased the size of the Minigrant award to $500. We are especially happy to maintain this level of giving,” commented Dr. Pope. “Because they use the money creatively, many Minigrant winners make the award look like thousands rather then hundreds of dollars.”
This will be the twenty-third annual call for grant proposals by the EJK Foundation, founded by Ezra Jack Keats, the renowned author and illustrator of such well-known books as The Snowy Day and Whistle for Willie. The EJK Foundation has awarded over half a million dollars in grants to public schools and libraries in all 50 states and the US Commonwealth, since the Minigrant Program was started in 1987.

The deadline for submission of proposals for the $500 Minigrant award is September 15, 2010. Proposals are read directly after the September deadline and announcements will be mailed out in mid November. Applications are available exclusively online at the Foundation’s website: [www.Ezra-Jack-Keats.org/programs/minigrantapp.pdf].
Dr. Pope invites educators to explore the EJK website after printing out their minigrant application. “There is a great deal of information about Ezra on our site. In addition we are excited to let you know that in 2012 we will be celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the printing of The Snowy Day! We hope that you will all join in the festivities honoring this beloved classic,” added Dr. Pope.
