Oh, that’s excellent. I just read The Day of the Pelican and was thinking about how one of my Newbery assignments was The Great Gilly Hopkins, which I loved when I first read it in fifth grade. I checked out Park’s Quest a few days ago, because I realized that I have never read it. I’ve never had the fortune of meeting her, but she seems like a fine person as well, in addition to being a terrific writer.
I love “discovering” new authors, but I dearly love the fact that several authors I enjoyed when I was a child-Katherine Paterson, Ann M. Martin, Jane Yolen, etc-are still active, and I can introduce them to new generations of readers.
