Fusenews: Quick and Cheap (in that blog reading is always cheap)

December 11, 2009 by Betsy Bird   1 comments

I hate doing this to you, but due to a lovely Longstockings party last night, we’re going to have to reduce this to just a quickie edition.  In brief:

  • I once ran into Isaac Mizrahi in a restaurant.  Hadn’t a clue who he was.  My husband had to tell me.  Now apparently he’s doing narration for Peter and the Wolf here in town.  Wowzer, I guess.

  • It’s the Rules Beginning Children’s Book Writers Should Not Break.  I agree with them all.  Particularly numero uno.  Thanks to @LizB for the link.

  • Every author’s nightmare: When bad covers happen to good books.  The horror…. the horror….  Thanks to 100 Scope Notes for the link.

  • I’ve been nominated for an edublog award.  But much as I appreciate the nomination, I ain’t a real edublog.  Go vote for the real ones.

  • When NPR announced 2009 Best Young Adult Fiction, they were a bit loosey-goosey on the terms "fiction" and "young adult".  The one thing they weren’t loose on was the term "best".  These are outstanding books.  Check them out.

  • I posted an interview with Dan Santat that featured music from a music mix I received from YA author James Kennedy.  Mr. Kennedy has now released that mix publicly (which ties in beautifully with his book The Order of Odd-Fish) beautifully here.  Run.  Go.  See.

  • Oh.  Like I’m going to ignore something with the phrase "Top 10 Sesame Street controversies" in its title.  Please.  I’m only human.

  • AUGGGHH!!  The pink!  My eyes!  It burns!

  • Finally, the complete list of books starred in 2009 has been written up and compiled over at ShelfTalker.  Probably some of the best bit of tabulating I’ve seen this year.  Go and be ashamed of how few five starred books you read this year.

Rent the Isaac Mizrahi film, “Unzipped”. I watched it a bunch of times. Fun.
