The Children’s Literary Café at the new Children’s Center at 42nd Street is pleased to announce our event on Saturday, September 12th at 2:00 p.m.:
Four Guys Who Make Picture Books, Live in the NYC Area, and Shave Irregularly*
What’s it like being a dude in New York City, writing and illustrating picture books? Join Children’s Ambassador Jon Scieszka and a great panel of kooky fellas from NYC as they discuss their new books and the process that allowed them to make and write them.

Jon Scieszka is the current reigning National Ambassador of Children’s Literature. He has written many a picture book classic, including The Stinky Cheese Man (and Other Fairly Stupid Tales) and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs amongst others. Scieszka’s new pairing with illustrator David Shannon, Robot Zot, is due out September 22nd.

Marc Tyler Nobleman is the author of more than 70 books including the picture book biography Boys of Steel: The Creators of Superman. He prefers to feature subjects in his books that have not been the focus of picture books before.

Brian Floca got his MFA at the New York School of Visual Arts. His recent titles include both picture book and non-fiction subjects including Lightship which won a Sibert Honor. Most recently he has written and illustrated Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11, which has earned FIVE starred reviews from professional journals.

Michael Rex is the the President, Founder and sole member of the "Greenpoint/Williamsburg Star Wars Appreciation Society." He has been writing and illustrating picture books since the summer of ’95. His parody picture book Goodnight Goon has recently been followed up by this year’s Runaway Mummy.
The Children’s Literary Café is a monthly gathering of adults who are fans of children’s literature. Professionals, librarians, authors, illustrators, publishers, booksellers, teachers, and anyone else interested in the field are welcome to attend our meetings. The Literary Café provides free Advanced Readers galleys, a rotating series of talks with professionals in the field, and great conversation. This program is for adults only.
