Fusenews: Pirate Speak and Spell Check Will Never See Eye to Glass Eye

A truly wonderful examination of the Just One More Book! children’s literary review podcast over at Quill and Quire. Couldn’t have happened to two nicer folks too. I mean, have you ever seen Mark and Andrea deal with troll commenters? They’re downright classy and sweet as peaches on a vine, they are. Makes me feel all kinds of guilty about abandoning my own podcast, but why bother when Just One More Book! does it so much better than I ever could?

• Vaguely wondering if saying the word "want" over and over can create a miracle. Worth a shot anyway.  Want.  Want.  Waaaaaant.  Aw, forget it. I’ll just pick a copy up in Canada while I’m here.

• Market thyself! Authors and illustrators I mean.  Editor Molly O’Neill breaks it down for you with some solid advice, including the use of online resources and creating a marketing plan for yourself.  The "setting specific goals" part is a killer.  Thanks to @mitaliperkins for the link.

• I’m jibber jabbering on September 15th (note to self: organize jibber, cut down on jabber) for the good folks of NY SCBWI.  You don’t have to be a member to attend this professional series, of course.  Just thought I’d let you know it’s there.

• Alvina has hit her 10-year mark as an editor working for Little, Brown.  Now she looks back at how she got the job in the first place.  Thank goodness for personal journals, eh? 

• I’ve enjoyed many an Unfortunate Cover post over at 100 Scope Notes, but none so much as this.  Arr!  It be Long John Silvezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

• As I may have mentioned before, David Mamet is slated to adapt the new cinematic version of The Diary of Anne Frank.  Upon hearing this The Onion made some predictions.  Thanks to Bookninja for the link.

Forget New York or London or Paris.  Lincoln, Nebraska is where it’s at today.  Currently The Kruger Collection of Miniature Furnishings and Decorative Arts is touring a traveling exhibit of miniature rooms based on popular children’s books.  Here’s a tiny shot from the Harry Potter Gryffindor room:

Say they: "The exhibit, ‘Little Nooks from Great Books,’ features scenes from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone; Little Women; Little House on the Prairie; Peter Pan and Wendy; The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Felicity Learns a Lesson: A School Story ."  One of these things is not like the others, one of these things just doesn’t belong . . .
