Video Sunday: Sentient Food Day
In rapid quick-fire motion I have to compile the great videos I found over the last two weeks. Last week, as you will recall, my entire system got thrown for a loop by Jarrett K’s greatest video of all time. Now I’m doing clean up duty to make up for my overindulgence. *sigh*
Were it within my power I would immediately begin today with the video recently posted of various committees calling various ALA Media Award winners in Denver the gawdawful early hours of the day. However, it is unembedable (which sounds sexier than it really is). You will have to watch it here instead then. Thanks to Pinot and Prose for the link.

Your Newbery winner, ladies and gentlemen. A man entirely comfortable in front of the camera. I wonder… is he the first adult author turned children’s writer to win this award? Certainly he may be the first to be at this level of famous prior to his win. He talks darn purdy in this video so once you’re done watching it you can also see him here talking about The Graveyard Book and . . . omigod what did he do to his beautiful hair???? Bring it back, bring it back! Ix-nay on the ort-shay air-hay. Did you ever notice that no one in real life actually says the word "nix" as it is used in pig latin? Food for thought. Thanks to Annette Wannamaker and Elisabeth Rose Gruner for the second link.
When online fandoms combine. It’s Hank Green and John Green’s world of video blogging plus the podcast nuttiness of Pottercast in a single dish. Makes me wish I knew Flash. I’ve always wanted to do stuff like this.
Sweet sweet technology. Thanks to bookshelves of doom for the link.
This one will make a tad more sense if you realize that Steve Martin spent this entire show interrupting Stephen, allowing our host to repeatedly launch into a Christian Bale-esque rant. But this was the piece that make everyone the happiest. By the way, you may have to scroll down for a while before getting to the next video. For some reason a whole mess of white space has appeared under this selection.

That takes Colbert’s mention of the Newbery on the show to a grand total of two. Oh, and I found a way to sneak in and spell the word "Newbery" correctly at the top of this video. Anywhere else you look it’s spelled all wrong. Thanks to Educating Alice for the heads up.
With the announcement of a new Tripods movie coming out the time has never been better to revisit this 5 minute extended trailer of the old 1984 BBC Tripods TV series.
And in the same vein, for our final unrelated bit of weirdness, admit it. You’ve had this dream before:
Jeez, I love Video Sundays. Thanks to Minor Details for the link.

I watched the last one with my son, 6 years old.
Me: Man, this is weird.
Son: I kinda like it.

I was about to present EB White as being both as-famous-or-more (I think?) and an adult-writer-turned-children’s-author, but remembered he just got the Honor. There’s Madeleine L’Engle, who started out writing for adults, but I think she made her biggest fame with and after A Wrinkle in Time. But I give you Walter Edmonds: he wrote The Matchlock Gun, and I’m pretty sure he was quite famous for Drums Along the Mohawk, especially since it was made into a Big Movie.

All right, Wendy. You get the daily cookie. Well played. And personally, I think White should count. “Secret of the Andes” or no.
