Fusenews: Ms. Bird Regrets She’s Unable to Blog Today. Madam.

February 13, 2009 by Betsy Bird   5 comments

I kid.  Yet my offerings today are paltry.  And I am attempting to review a book that is sucking my little gray cells dry.  Forewarned is forearmed.  From what I could gather:

  • Art designer Chad Beckerman (credit the Wimpy Kid covers entirely to him) is getting into the interview business over at his blog Mishaps and Adventures.  Specifically, he is taking advantage of his vast connections to incredibly cool people to give us the behind-the-scenes look at their work.  First up: Nikki McClure and her process.

  • "I dunno, dude.  I smelled much worse at the Renaissance Festival."  Actual quote heard by my husband outside the Javits Convention Center.  This year my trip to the Con sadly did not result in me taking copious amounts of delightful photos.  Fear not, however!  Should you need your staple of all things nerdy pumped up a bit, Alison Morris over at ShelfTalker recaps the sights, sounds, and smells of that most glorious of crazed geekdom.  Need another hit?  Publishers Weekly was on the job in yet another way, creating a page of sheer unrestrained Photo Mania.

  • From Cynopsis Kids (they’re just firing on all cylinders this week, aren’t they?):

"Village Roadshow , Warner Bros . and Animal Logic ‘s feature film animated adaptation of Guardians of Ga’hoole will feature the voices of Jim Sturgess , Geoffrey Rush , Rachael Taylor , and David Wenham , per The Hollywood Reporter . Directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchman) and currently shooting in Australia, the movie is based on the first three titles in author Kathryn Lasky’s kid-aimed book series, Guardians of Ga’hoole ."

  • Great Line: "I object to raisins in cookies. They are just masquerading as chocolate chips to deceive the nearsighted."  That’s from BiketoWork Barb’s 25 Things About Me list.  I couldn’t have possibly said it better myself.  Thanks to Blogtations for the link.

  • Two blogs for your perusal.  The first comes from a former children’s editor, the second a current author.  The first is Delightful My House, and in it former editor Alix Reed muses at will.  It’s quite charming, really.  The second blog is A Pen and a Nest and it comes from author Kimberly Willis Holt.  Best of all the post An Accidental Blogger examines the very nature of authorial blogs and how they can aid in the writing process.  I also liked her interview with cat-ridden Kathi Appelt.  This is a blog to watch.  No question.  Thanks to Melissa Wiley (Here in the Bonny Glen) for the first link.

  • Daily Image:

It’s a Little Red Riding Hook for your keys.

I dunno.  Looks to me like the wolf’s copping a feel.  Though if that’s the case, why does Red seem so content and the wolf look so weirded out?

Thanks to BB-Blog for the link.

Okay, even a “paltry” blog entry by you has way too many good things linked to. How is a young man supposed to stay productive with paltry posts like this?

I’m a Wimpy Kid fan and a graphic design fan, yet I did not know about Mr. Beckerman, thank you for the enlightenment.

    Thanks Bird,

I can’t wait to get started on my second interview with JOHN HENDRIX. Thanks for the post.
