Kidlit Drink Night: November is for Lovers . . . of Children’s Books

November 11, 2008 by Betsy Bird   10 comments

All right, fellow citizens.  We’ve a new President ah-coming to the White House.  The weather is turning cold.  The stars are in alignment.  Sounds like ideal conditions for a new Kidlit Drink Night.

Due to a lovely turn of events in which my email was briefly hacked this weekend (some lucky readers were blessed enough to find a message from "me" offering a plethora of choice electronic goods) Cheryl Klein and I have been having some difficulty determining the location.  We’ve finally settled on Faces and Names though so this much we know:

What:  Kidlit Drink Night – A time when anyone who wants to talk about children’s books is invited to imbibe and talk at length on such topics as the New York Times movie review of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, for example.  Teacher, librarians, editors, marketing types, booksellers, authors, illustrators, parents, and enthusiasts of every stripe are welcome.

When:  Monday, November 17th!

When???:  Oh!  Uh . . . . 6:30.

Where:   Faces and Names.  You know.  The nice bar with the grotesque celebrity caricatures.

Why:  Because we like you! M-O-U-S-E.

So thrilled that it’s a bar I only have to take a single train to!

A great idea, and I wish I could attend but I work Monday nights…how about Thurs or Friday?? Thanks for doing this.

Sweet! I heart Kidlit Drink Night! (p.s. I was hoping it was the place with grotesque caricatures from “Muppets Take Manhattan”, but alas, that’s Sardi’s.)

There are times (often) when I wish I lived in the Big Apple.

    This is one of them.

Lori, if I could do a “Muppets Take Manhattan” Kidlit Drink Night, you know that I would. I imagine us sauntering into Sardi’s wearing fake moustaches, wearing trenchcoats harboring rats. Or maybe we could all just sing somebody’s getting maaaaried… which you just did!

Those of us who can’t make Friday nights ever are glad this is on a Monday night–weeknight kidlit drink nights ftw. I’ll try to make it.

…too bad I’m across the country in Los Angeles…anyone interested in such a night here????

We don’t have to go to Sardi’s. We can go to some cheap deli staffed by rats – there are a TON of those types of places in NYC!

Looking forward to a rat-free Monday…and we can sing “Together Again”!

I’ve been reading about these gatherings and I’d like to attend. See you next week.
