Video Sunday: I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends

September 28, 2008 by Betsy Bird   1 comments

What would I do without my readers?  I’d probably have to go out there and (gasp, shudder!) do actually work.  I’d probably have to sweat and slave over finding just the right videos in time for each and every Sunday.  Instead, all I have to do is sit back, kick up my heels, light me a tasty seegar, and wait for the emails to start pouring in.  This week about three different people saved my sorry videoless butt, and I am grateful.

How many of you got to see the excellent video that accompanied Brian Selznick’s acceptance speech this year?  Well Yuyi Morales was there and the thing really inspired her.  So when she went and won the 2008 SCBWI Golden Kite Award for Little Night, she had just the thing to play.  Check it out:

I’m particularly fond of the picture of Brian at the end. You can check out her blog post on the subject here.  Thanks for the link, Yuyi!

As book trailers go, this one’s a lot more straightforward than most.  It puts me in mind of the Harlem documentaries my husband edits.

Thanks to Carole Weatherford for the link. Sure, it’s YA but she’s always done children’s until now and I’m fond of both her and Mr. Cooper.

I’m going to end with two videos that somehow, by some odd stroke of evil fate, I missed on the first round.  One of the first books I reviewed this year was Amy Krouse Rosenthal’s remarkably lovely Little Hoot.  It seems fitting that I then show some of her YouTube videos, which originally came out earlier this summer.  Clearly I was the only one who did miss them since the first has a whopping 15,228 views on it.  Viral video fame?  You be the judge.  In any case, here is the first:

. . . and here is what they made:

Amazing.  Note the 22,196+ views.  Chicago, you are clearly the land of plenty.  Thanks to Carter Hasegawa for the links!
