Kidlit Karaoke Night

What does this have to do with children’s literature?  I dunno.  Perhaps you would like to sing Pierre ala Carol King’s recording from Really Rosie.  Maybe you’d prefer a selection from The Tragic Treasury: Songs From a Series of Unfortunate Events. (I’m a big fan of Shipwrecked myself).  I kid, of course.  We may be meeting at the greatest karaoke bar in the five boroughs but they do not have the largest children’s literary music selection.

What can you expect?  Well, anyone who would like to both talk about children’s literature and sing some Heart can meet up this Saturday at 9:00 (details below).  The singing begins either at 9:30 or 10 depending on the day.  We could either snag tables in the front or hang out in the backroom (but you can’t see the karaoke there, so I suggest the former).  Come early to get a seat.  The MC is a fellow called The Sisco Kid and he’s a sweetheart.  All songs are free, he DJs and organizes who sings when, and the room is overwhelmingly supportive.  You get a very nice mix of locals and Manhattan jet setters.  There is no jeering and if you screw up miserably (as I often do) nobody makes you feel bad.

Karaoke not your thing?  Fear not.  We’ll have a normal Kidlit Drink Night in September, perhaps even with a super special guest.  In the meantime, here are the details for anyone interested in belting out a few choice tunes:

When: Saturday, August 30th, 9:00 p.m.
Where: Old Carriage Inn, 312 7th Ave (between 4th Ave & 5th Ave).  Nearest train is the 7th Ave (F).
