Fusenews: Shortsy Short

• Slooooooowly…. so so sloooooowly retailers are beginning to notice something.  YA fantasy and science fiction appears to be outselling their adult literary equivalents over and over again. According to the Whatever blog, "last week, the top 50 YA SF/F bestsellers outsold the top 100 adult SF/F bestsellers (adult SF and F are separate lists) by two to one. So 50 YA titles are selling twice as much as 100 adult SF/F titles."  Well heavens above, grab me my smelling salts.  I appear to have the vapors!  It would be nice if this were recognized a little more widely amongst the bookseller community.  The repercussions of the fact that the New York Times separated out the children and YA titles from the adult books on their bestseller lists (all thanks to Harry Potter) is that we no longer get to see much comparing and contrasting amongst sales regardless of age level or readership.  Thanks to Galleycat for the link and for commenting re: The Warriors series, "We just like to revel in the fact that the bestselling fantasy book in the country last week was about cats ".

• I pose the question to you now.  Great fan art or the GREATEST fan art ?  I know which camp I belong to.

• Man writes book.  Book is called " AMERICA AT HOME , an extraordinary book of photographs capturing the distinctive rituals, intimate moments, and all the ways in which we work, play, learn, and interact with friends and family members (and pets!) at home."  Sounds simple enough.  And then man decides that you can adapt the book and put your family on the cover.  Imagine being able to adapt a book to your own personal life.  Galleycat reports that, "The project is a joint venture between Smolan’s Against All Odds Productions and IKEA, with additional support from Google, Snapfish, and Babycenter (along with several other technology companies)," which I find particularly interesting.  Big companies come together in a joint effort to make YOU feel famous.  That is the future as I see it.
