Betsy, How can we organize similar KidLit Drink Nights in other locations? I’d love to set one up in Nashville, but I wonder what do you do, do you have special books or publishers involved, how many people attend, how can you develop interest? Wouldn’t it be great to take your KidLit Nights on the road across the country? We bloggers of children’s titles need to organize MORE fun and not just on the coasts.
In my own personal experience the best thing to do is to time the night with some big children’s literature event. In this case, SCBWI provided the folks. Then you need to get a partner in crime. Cheryl Klein is mine because she is a brilliant editor and knows folks. Agents are a good get as well. Someone who can provide bodies, if nothing else. Then you need to let them know in a forum that a lot of them read. I use this blog, but I’m sure that listservs and Yahoo Groups also work. The number of people attending varies considerably, depending on the day. Sometimes it’s just eight people. Sometimes, like the last one, more than 60.
