Hot Men of Children’s Literature, Part 45 in a Series

October 17, 2007 by Betsy Bird   6 comments

These usually come out on Tuesday but, eh.  Who’s counting?

So today’s fellow is a gap.  A man I intended to include, nay PROMISED his editor to include, and then never did.  Large gaps fill my brain to bursting, it seems.  Really, it wasn’t until I bumped into him at the Eric Carle Honors that I thought to myself, "Betsy, that is a hot man."  And then, "Didn’t I already feature him?"

Yeah, not so much.  Which is a shame considering his talents.  With two websites (one here and a delightfully droolly one here), some great picture books, and hopefully more in the works, I proudly present the one, the only . . . .

PETER BROWN!!!

This is my favorite because he’s all broody but you can take your pick:

Aw.  So sweet..  And how many of you were aware that Peter did the covers for Barkbelly and Snowbone, hmmmmm?  Now go and locate his book Chowder if you haven’t seen it before.  It’s a beaut.

And don’t forget THE FABULOUS BOUNCING CHOWDER, the sequel to CHOWDER! It’s one great–and funny–picture book. I love Peter’s illustrations in it. I reviewed it at Wild Rose Reader last month.

What’s with the Madonna link on the bottom of the page? Are you a fan?

Oh heavens, no. My blog takes a pulse reading of the things I am LEAST excited about (The Seeker, Seeing Redd, Madonna) and then slams them all about my site accordingly. Never assume I know what ad is going to pop up on my page at any given time. Keeps me humble.

Ooooh, I love “Chowder” and its sequel! I had no idea that Peter was so swoon-worthy!

Good seeing you today. Even if I did totally forget that “Let It Shine” is actually my favorite for the Caldy. Would love to hear your thoughts on the Sojourner and Harriet book!

You know, I didn’t pick it up. I probably should have but it’s one of those books that I’m not sure how to approach. A worthy subject, sure, no question. But when we get into the “they-might-have-talked-about-this” area of things, I get confoosed. I dunno. What was your take on it? Great seeing you today too. Sorry I won’t see you at the first literary cafe, but I’ll catch up with you for the Shaun Tan thingy.
